Jason has completed the 2015 Summer Internship Program at the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL). The Summer Internship Program is designed to offer academically outstanding high school students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the engineering world, along with helping to fill the pipeline of future engineers. Jason has been a valued contributor to the community engagement component of the National Science Foundation Living Bridge Project through advancing the design of the project website. He succeeded in learning about web page design, information presentation and social media integration. Jason learned how to integrate field collected data into the project website for real time information sharing. In addition, he learned how the integration of structural engineering, mechanical engineering and computer science is necessary for the successful creation of a smart, sustainable transportation infrastructure.

Jake has completed the 2015 Summer Internship Program at the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL). The Summer Internship Program is designed to offer academically outstanding high school students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the engineering world, along with helping to fill the pipeline of future engineers. Jake has been a valued contributor to the Living Bridge Project. He succeeded in learning about material testing, corrosion resistance and structural response instrumentation. He had the opportunity to work on an experimental design to test the impact of adhesive removal on the effectiveness of the corrosion resistance provided by a metalized coating. Jake learned how to post-process collected strain readings and compared those readings with calculated analytical response based on structural mechanics. In addition, he learned how the integration of structural engineering, mechanical engineering and computer science is necessary for the successful creation of a smart sustainable transportation infrastructure.
